The Department for Work and Pensions has published the following three research summaries:

  • Predictors of attitudes to age across Europe (RR735)
  • Aspirations for later life (RR737)
  • Evidence review of smartcard schemes in local authorities (RR738)

MRC funding boost to further research into disease mechanisms of Alzheimer’s

 

A major funding boost of £550,000 from the Medical Research Council has allowed neuroscientists at the University of Bristol  to continue their research into the pathological processes underpinning Alzheimer's disease

B Vitamins could protect cognition in elderly with memory problems.

 

This is the finding of an Oxford University study that was supported by grants from a group of funders that included UKARF members,  MRC and Alzheimer's Research UK

Practical Guide to EU funding opportunities for Research and Innovation

 

The European Commission has produced a practical guide to help potential beneficiaries find there way through the EU's three funding instruments and find the best funding scheme.

'Silver Surfer' award, 2011

 

The search is on to find Ireland's 'Silver Surfer' of the year.  The award, sponsored by the computer giant Google and charity Age Action, is open to candidates 'of a certain age' who have made technology part of their daily life.

IMI (Innovative Medicines Initiative) call for proposals

 

IMI, a public-private partnership between the EU and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), has launched its 4th call for proposals, including the opportunity for Alzheimer's Disease researchers to participate in important projetcs and frameworks.  The deadline for the 1st stage of the call is 18 October 2011

The Dementia Commissioning Pack, a new resource to support clinical commissioning groups in designing and purchasing high quality dementia services, has been launched by Care Services Minister, Paul Burstow, and is available for download.

This recent study by the Thomas Pocklington Trust reveals that visually impaired people are at risk in their own homes because of a lack of home safety services that could protect them.
